Winter Storm Safety Guide
Because of the extreme weather that is
hitting us at the moment; important steps need to be taken to make sure you are
prepared for the worst.
If you have not constructed a plan to protect your home
from any short and long term damages, then take these precautions and stay safe
from the winter storm…
o
Park your vehicles in your
garage or underneath an overhang
o
Bring all your pets and make
sure everyone is inside when the storm hits
o
Keep an eye out for the tell-tale
signs so you know when the storm will be arriving – dark skies, thunder
rumbling, wind speed picking up and the rain beginning to fall
o
Move all your outdoor furniture
inside as well as any garden decorations, pot plants, etc. that could be blown
over or damaged by severe rain
o
Find a radio station or TV
channel that will keep you updated on the storm
o
Make sure all your doors and
winters are closed and secured properly
o
Stay away from windows in case
a tree or branch had to fall over and shatter the window
o
Before the storm arrives, clean
out your gutters to prevent any possible flooding
o
Avoid driving or travelling
ANYWHERE during a storm! The roads are wet and there could be debris in your
path. If travel is absolutely necessary then take an emergency supplies kit
with you
o
In case of extreme weather it
is smart to have a torch, batteries and a first aid kit on hand
o
Wear the appropriate clothing
and use blankets to stay warm
o
After the storm has passed, look
out for broken trees and other debris, and make sure to steer clear of any
dangerous things that have fallen over
If extreme weather is in the forecast, use
these precautions and keep yourself and your loved ones safe!
