How Drinking really affects your Driving
Getting behind the wheel, whether it is the
wheel of a car, truck, motorbike, etc. after you have consumed alcohol is a
serious crime. Drinking and driving will only result in something negative, be
it getting arrested, having an accident and even death.
Even having one small drink can lead to a
potentially dangerous situation… so it’s important to remember that drinking
and driving is illegal for a reason.
When you are driving, you use your hands,
eyes and feet – these parts are controlled by the brain, so when you drive you
need to have complete alertness and the ability to make quick decisions. You cannot
acquire this and drive safely if you have been drinking!
Here’s how drinking really effects your
driving…
* Reaction time. Alcohol slows your
reflexes and decreases your ability to react to a certain situation.
* Vision. When you drink, alcohol slows
your eye muscle function, alter eye movement and visual perception which can
result in blurred vision.
* Judgement. Alcohol consumption makes it
harder for you to judge where you are driving on the road, your position on the
road, the location of the cars around you as well as the road signs.
* Concentration. Drinking alcohol makes it
difficult to pay attention to driving correctly and drowsiness may kick in.
* Comprehension. Alcohol often decreases
your ability to make rational decisions such as driving the correct speed limit
and following the rules of the road.
* Coordination. When you drink, your
hand/eye/foot coordination is greatly reduced and your ability to drive safely
is affected.
Any amount of alcohol in your blood stream
can affect your driving, do not risk it!
