     1.       Take off the knobs on your stove or lock them. It is so easy for your pet to walk passed the stove and accidentally move it just enough to turn it on. Stove knob covers are a cheap and easy way to stop this from happening.

     2.       Never leave burning candles unattended. Always put out all open flames when you leave a room. Your pet can tip things over with their paw or tail without even realising it.

     3.       Pet-proof your house. Just like baby-proofing a house, go through your entire home and get rid of any loose wires and other hazards.

     4.       Be careful of water bowls on wooden decks. Believe it or not but sun rays can ignite a wooden deck below if filtered through a glass water bowl. Rather stick to ceramic or stainless steel bowls.

It is vital to always be prepared for an emergency; here are some things to consider:

- Get a rescue alert sticker. If there is ever a fire in your home or any other emergency, this sticker will alert the rescue workers that there are pets inside your home.

- Create an emergency kit. Make your kit beforehand and keep it somewhere safe, like close to the front door so it is easy to access.

- Keep identification on your pet. Always make sure your pet has an up-to-date contact information on their tag. You might even want to consider micro chipping your pet.
