Why South Africans don’t trust the Police
These days there is very little trust left in the police. A recent
survey showed that the level of satisfaction with SAPS has decreased from 71.3%
to 57.1%.
So, have people really lost hope in the police?
Yes! Many believe it is totally pointless to report crimes
to the police, because they feel they can do nothing about it or they just won’t
do anything about it.
When households around South Africa were asked why they had
no faith left in the police, this is what they said:
79.8% - Police don’t respond on time
58.6% - Police are lazy
51.0% - Stolen items are never recovered
48.0% - Police are so corrupt
47.1% - Police release the criminals too early
45.1% - Police do not come into the area
39.1% - Police cooperate with the criminals
33.6% - Not enough police resources
32.4% - Police are harsh towards victims

The police in South Africa seem to be doing nothing about
crime, and society continues to become disheartened.
However, this is the reason why neighbourhood watch groups
have become so vital! They have created an effective way for the community to
reduce crime, by working with the police and armed response organizations.
Have you heard of PatrolMan? It is an innovative new app
designed to manage your neighbourhood watch group, allowing South Africans to
take back control of crime in their community. Keep track of crime statistics,
