10 Home Safety tips for Young Children
Your baby will start to move and explore in
the blink of an eye, and after that there’s no stopping them! To keep your
children safe you have to ensure that you are properly prepared. Doing a safety
check in every room of your house is vital, so try and go down to their level
and get a better view of where the dangers lie.
- Do you know what to do in an emergency?
If possible, do a first aid course and always keep a fully stocked first aid
kit in your home and car.
- Write down all emergency numbers and keep
them in a visible place as well as on your phone.
- Keep poisons, medication and cleaning
chemicals far out of reach in a locked safe or cabinet.
- Always make sure any dangerous items,
such as matches; scissors, knives, lighters, etc. are kept far out of reach of
children.
- Children who are under the age of 12
years should NEVER be left home alone even if you’re just popping to the shop
for a few minutes.
- If you are unsure, call an electrician to
come out and double check that all the wiring is safe in your house.
- All power points need to be covered.
- If there are areas in your house that
could get wet flooring, like the kitchen and the bathroom, be sure to get
non-slip flooring.
- Corners that are sharp or at your
children’s head height need to have corner protectors.
- Ensure that all windows or external doors
are suitably barred or fixed to remove the possibility of your child falling
out or injuring themselves.
