10 Road Safety Tips that can save your Life
In South Africa, hijackings as well as
other road crimes are a part of everyday life. It is a sad reality that SA
remains a hot spot for road crimes…
Use these 10 road safety tips and it could
be the difference between life and death!
1. Install and electric gate and make sure
you close it as soon as you enter your yard. Most hijackings and home invasions
occur just as you are driving into or leaving your property.
2. Make sure your driveway is well-lit and
there are no overgrown bushes or trees for criminals to hide in.
3. Leave enough room between your car and
the car in front of you at traffic lights or junctions to avoid the chance of
being boxed in.
4. If you get the feeling that you are
being followed, drive to the nearest police station or safe public place. Do not
drive home!
5. At a roadblock that seems unusual or unexpected,
always keep your windows closed and your doors locked. Ask the police or
traffic officer for their identification before you do anything.
6. If
you sense you are in danger, hit the button on your tracking device if you have
one, or press the emergency SOS button on your PatrolMan app.
7. When you are driving alone, let your
partner, friend or family member know so that they know where you are going and
what your expected time of arrival is.
8. Get to know your neighbours and what
cars you’ll expect to see, this will help you identify any strange or
suspicious vehicles.
9. Adopt a search pattern radius to scout
before approaching your home.
10. Adjust your speed when you are
approaching a traffic light or stop street so that you don’t have to come to a
complete stop, especially at night time.
