10 School Bus Safety Rules
Did you know that most school bus injuries
actually happen outside the bus and not when children are travelling inside?
All parents need to sit down with their children and teach them these bus
safety rules for getting on and off the school bus…
1. Always wear the correct clothing and avoid
drawstrings! Clothing like this can get caught or snagged on the bus handrail,
doors or aisles and cause serious injuries.
2. When waiting for the bus, stand and wait
on the pavement and steer clear of any traffic.
3. Wait until the school bus has come to a
complete stop and the doors open completely before stepping inside.
4. Enter the bus in a calm, single file and
use the handrail when stepping into the vehicle.
5. Once inside the bus, take a seat and sit
down immediately. Don’t make any loud noises or start playing rough with other children - that will distract
the driver.
6. Listen to the bus drivers instructions
at all times and remember to always be courteous to the driver and the other
children on the bus.
7. Keep the inside of the bus clean and
clear – don’t throw down books or bags as they could cause a tripping hazard.
8. When you arrive at your stop, wait for
the school bus to stop completely before standing up from your seat and walking
to the exit.
9. Stay away from the rear wheels of the
bus at all times!
10. Never ever run after the bus, even if
you have dropped something or forgotten something inside.
