1 > Always lock your car doors and keep the windows closed.

2 > Keep all valuables in your car out of plain sight, or better yet, do not keep any valuables in your car at all.

3 > Lock all the doors and windows to your home, no matter how hot it is!

4 > Remember that during the summer months, sounds such as air conditioners humming, lawn mowers, children playing, etc. can make it difficult to hear something suspicious – so always be extra safe.

5 > Avoid going overboard with the plants and/or landscaping around your windows, doors and gates as it can be used as cover for criminals.

6 > Never announce that you are going on vacation on social media because criminals use social media too! Rather wait until after you’re home from your summer holiday to post videos or photos.

7 > If you are going away on a holiday, be sure to make it seem like your home is lived in. Put lights and a radio on a timer and get a neighbour or family member to pick up your mail.

Always remember to take the time to prevent crime! Should you be going out of town this summer makes sure to notify your neighbourhood watch group so they can keep an eye on your home.

PatrolMan is an innovative neighbourhood watch app that allows members to keep up to date with the latest crime statistics, reports and incidents – download it today and you’ll even have the use of a nifty SOS button if you are ever in an emergency situation.
