Whether you are simply driving your child to school or taking a long road trip along the coast, driving with children in the car adds extra responsibility and anxiety to your drive.

Take a look through our road safety guide for children and put those worries aside…

The best way to stay safe is to always be prepared! This means ensuring that your car is 100% road worthy with an up-to-date license and all the correct paperwork. Start with the right know-how as well as the right tools for the job and it’ll make your trip easier and safer.

Know the Correct Laws – From tiny tots to older kids, your child will have to sit in a booster seat with special child restraints, otherwise they’ll have to be strapped in properly to the appropriate car seat. Learn the laws and be prepared with the correct equipment to buckle your child in.

Use the Right Child Safety Seat – Depending on your child’s age and size, there will be different safety guidelines to follow. Infants need rear-facing safety seats, while older children may only need a booster seat. Make sure you choose the right seat that meets all the right requirements.

Install Car Safety Seats Properly – A seat is only safe if it is installed correctly, so make sure you follow the specific set-up instructions properly. A child car safety seat should secure your child and protect them should you ever be involved in a car crash.

Here are a few extra child safety tips:

Ø  In-Car Baby Monitor. A monitor doesn’t only have to be used in the nursery; it can also be used in your car to make your trip a lot safer. It’ll allow you to check up on baby without having to take your eyes off the road.

Ø  Seat Belt Pillow. Long car rides usually make children restless and tired, tempting us to keep kids comfy without the correct car restraints. A seat belt pillow allows kids to comfortably nap while staying safe.

Child car safety is a vital part of vehicle safety that every parent should understand properly. Stay tuned in for our part 2 of our guide to road safety for children.
