Signs that may be Welcoming Burglars into your Home

The outside of your home such as your yard and curb can tell criminals a lot about the things you have inside your house.

Here are some signs that burglars will consider to be welcome signs…

Garden:

Burglars love your lavish landscaping and extravagant front yard just as much as you do! You know those flower bushes you planted in front – those can be used as hiding spots for potential burglars. So keep your garden under control and keep in mind that all that money and time you spend on your garden is a sign that you may spend money on other things inside your home.

Windows:

Burglars like using the good old method of spying through windows to see that you have lying inside your house. Large, unsecure windows also offer an easy way of gaining access into your home, especially if you do not have burglar bars or a home security alarm system.

Toys:

It’s hard to get kids to clean up after themselves, so expensive toys and jungle gyms in your yard may tell a burglar that you have money to spend, but no time to clean up. This can also indicate that you’re more likely to forget to lock the door or arm your alarm system.

Rubbish:

Digging through your garbage can give a potential burglar insight into what you have inside your home. Make sure to only take you’re rubbish bin out on garbage day and always break down boxes that expensive electronics such as TVs, PCs came in!

Post:

Should you be leaving town, whether it is for a holiday or a business meeting, ask a friend or neighbour to pick up your post for you. Curious thieves may notice a mail build up and figure out that your home is empty and easy to break into.

Behaviour:

We are creatures of habit and routine, meaning it is easy for criminals to watch us and figure out the best time to strike. They often watch for certain times when you’re not home, whether you’ve locked up the house properly and how long you’re gone for. So be careful and try to mix it up every few days.
