However, before you light up the fire there are a few safety tips you need to know. Why? Because every type of fireplace, whether it be electric, gas or wood burning can cause potential danger in your house.

      1.       Minimize soot buildup by using proper fireplace wood, such as hardwood or manufactured logs.

      2.       A roaring fire may look nice, but a fire that is too hot can damage your fireplace.

      3.       Stack your logs as far back as you can to ensure no sparks or embers escape the fireplace.

      5.       If your fireplace has doors, open them and use a screen when the fire is lit.

      6.       Clear the area around the fireplace and make sure nothing flammable is nearby.

      7.       Never leave your fire unattended.

      8.       Crack a window open a bit when you light your fire to make sure there’s enough oxygen for the fire to burn.

      9.       Always keep a fire extinguisher nearby – just in case!
