To make sure you are completely safe when you are walking, use these 6 helpful tips…

  ü   If you have to use your headphones or any other electronic device, make sure to turn the volume down enough so that you can still hear the traffic and what is happening around you.

  ü   If you need to make a phone call, send an email, message someone or do anything that may distract you from your course, STOP and do it away from the flow of other pedestrians.

  ü   When you are walking, focus on where you are going and what is going on around you.

  ü   Never jaywalk, rather look for a zebra crossing or a traffic light so you can cross the road safely.

  ü   Always look up when you are walking, especially when you are crossing intersections, stepping off the curb or walking towards stairs.

  ü   Be alert even when you are walking in parking lots or anywhere close to a street, this is especially important at night as drivers are less likely to see you.
