So, have people really lost hope in the police?

Yes! Many believe it is totally pointless to report crimes to the police, because they feel they can do nothing about it or they just won’t do anything about it.

When households around South Africa were asked why they had no faith left in the police, this is what they said:

79.8% - Police don’t respond on time
58.6% - Police are lazy
51.0% - Stolen items are never recovered
48.0% - Police are so corrupt
47.1% - Police release the criminals too early
45.1% - Police do not come into the area
39.1% - Police cooperate with the criminals
33.6% - Not enough police resources
32.4% - Police are harsh towards victims
